The Public Administration Select Committee announced in July 2010 a short inquiry into who does UK grand strategy. This short paper sets out the background and 'story so far' of UK 'grand strategy', sets out twelve questions that the inquiry seeks to address, and sets out guidelines for evidence submitted by the public.

Article by Sean Lusk in Public Servant, arguing that the fiscal crisis provides an opportunity for UK government to reassess its priorities, but in view of the issues that will be important in the next 5, 10 or 15 year horizon. By taking action only to solve today's problems and not prepare for the future we risk approaching it ill-prepared and wasting resources on the way.
Global Food & Farming Futures

Project undertaken by Foresight in Gov't Office for Science, asking "How can a future global population of 9 billion people all be fed healthily and sustainably?". Project looks out to Food & Farming in 2050, and uses many strategic tools including driver analysis and systems mapping to good effect. Interim reports available, with final report due for launch in November 2010.

A Magna Carta for Localism - three practical steps to make localism real

Document from the Centre for Policy Studies outlines three means by which the UK's highly centralised power-base, in which 70% of public spending is centralised compared to 50% or under in other EU states, can be devolved to local administrations to save up to £14 billion per year. These three means are: local support for the unemployed; local provision of community care; and local prevention of crime and anti-social behaviour.
Ahead of the game: Blueprint for reform of the Australian government administration

Report by the Advisory Group on Reform of Australian Government Administration to the Australian government, setting out a blueprint to modernise the Australian Public Service (APS). The document sets out nine long term, future focused recommendations to improve services, programmes and policies affecting Australians.
